From the first singles leading up to ‘I Quit’, HAIM made it clear they bringing something more to the table by giving a little less. Less “f’s” that is.
‘Relationships’ brought some slick sampling tricks to chill with Este’s grooviest bass lines today and this opened up the range for HAIM’s fourth album. ‘Relationships’ is a bop that leans back into 90’s sexy, swag aesthetic. Something they’ve teased before but finally on 'Relationships’ a R&B centered Pop song emerged that still sounded 1000% HAIM. ‘Relationships’ feels like you’d request it by saying “hey DJ…” vs. asking for the aux.
Then like honestly only HAIM could do, the album’s second single ‘Down to be wrong’ went hard, in the other direction. Rock anthem time, with Danielle ripping through lyrics like:
“Did you think you could keep me busy
Holding the line”
Last Friday ‘I Quit’ dropped with 15 songs, and this week HAIM delivered the third official music video from the album with the single ‘All over me’, an more classic indie rock singalong but this time free from innuendo because HAIM’s quit with bullsh*t.
