The gift of music comes in the form of a song, which is itself comprised of parts such as lyrics, melodies, rhythm, and the bridge. And then, the songs themselves are typically pulled from a grander gift of music, the album. When digital downloads emerged at the turn of the 21^st century, for the first time since the invention of the 12-inch vinyl album, songs could be purchased individually from the album. Some argued that the album was headed by way of the dodo bird, and they made sense. Why purchase albums when a few songs are your absolute favorites?  

Streaming changed this entirely, and now anyone can consume a full album through their streaming plan without paying incrementally for either the songs or more albums. If you equated this new paradigm to car ownership for car lovers, it would be like you can driving any car you want any day of the week.

Artists and groups recognized this and continued creating albums so that fans could immerse themselves into the world of an artist’s or group’s music. Now, with albums here to stay, a new and improved format is starting to emerge with “video albums”. Rather than designing only a static album cover (and inserts), with video albums, a unique video or visualizer is created for each song. The videos work together to bring the album experience to life, allowing us to enjoy it with our eyes and ears. Video albums are not musicals or movies because the dialogue not significantly embellished on from the album. To highlight the emerging format, this year Vibe Stream added a new category: 📀 Album Streams.
